Introduction

Technology is rapidly becoming available throughout the LAUSD.  This presents opportunities as well as challenges for classroom teachers to integrate technology into their regular teaching/learning practices.  Since this is new to many of the teachers, some mechanism and models need to be put in place to help them over the “Digital Divide” between those who know how to apply technology in the classroom and those who don’t.  This bridge must be built if we are to be successful in integrating technology.

Technology Integration Training should be designed so that teachers learn how to use the various productivity applications in the course of producing products that will assist them in their day-to-day activities and teaching/learning style. Below is a list of items to be included in a teacher’s portfolio.  Successful completion of these items will help teachers well on their way to the full integration of technology into the curriculum.

Assessment measures are crucial to ascertain where teachers are in the integration of technology into their classroom practices, and necessary steps to raise their individual proficiency levels. The Digital Portfolio will serve as a performance indicator in such assessment.

The purpose of this workshop is to familiarize teachers with components of Digital Portfolios and various ways of presenting them.  It is not designed to cover every item listed on the portfolio requirements list, but to get teachers started in the process of creating their own Digital Portfolio which will continually grow as they participate in more training workshops.
