Today we will practice by constructing a home page for your school. You may select one of the templates below, and customize it with pertinent information about your particular school.

Setting up your document

1. Properties ->

2. Click on the "save" button on the toolbar, and save your document file in a folder on the desktop. (Save file as "index")

3. Change the heading to state the name of your school. Include your school's address and phone / fax numbers as well as a link to LAUSDnet.

4. Type in the information under the various sections on your page

5. Save your work.

Creating "Target" links. This is for linking images and text within the same page.

1. View the school template page in preview mode, and the notice how some of the images are linked to the corresponding text information. You are to do the same with the remaining images
2. Place your cursor at the place where you want the link to point, and click on the "target"  button on the toolbar. When the dialog box appears, give your target a name.
 
3. Click once on the image to highlight it. Then click on the "link" button. When the dialog box appears, select from the list of named targets in the curent page.

4. Save your work.

Add a "mailto" Link:

1- Highlight the word or image you want to use for your link.

2- Click on the "link" button  In the dialog box, type "mailto:" and your e-mail address.   Example: < mailto: carolyn@ary.net >

 



Final Steps:

Once you have finished inputting your information, delete all of the red type from the school template page, and check all of your links.

After you have created your pages, preferrably on your own PC:

1. Name your first page "index.htm".

2. Make sure your pages follow LAUSDnet's Acceptable Use Policy. http://www.lausd.k12.ca.us/lausd/lausdnet/aup.html

3. Create a public_html directory in your LAUSDnet home directory.

4. Upload your web pages to the public_html directory .

5. Make the pages viewable by changing the file permissions.

6. Submit your site to the search engines.
