As you read the story of Julie and the Wolves, you will discover how nature can teach us to survive.
Miyax's Father, Kapugen, taught her many things about her Eskimo culture.
1- He taught her that to the Eskimo, it is a "wealthy spirit" which makes one a leader. Name the three qualities which Kapugen says make a wealthy spirit. Give an example of someone you know who has all three of these qualities.
2- Kapugen taught Miyax that fear is crippling. He said that when fear seizes her it means that she is doing something wrong, and she should change her ways. How did this teaching help Miyax out in fearful situations?
3- He taught her to wait patiently and never give up, and she would get what she needed. How did this teaching helped her to survive?
4- He taught her to study the animals and they would teach her how to get food. Miyax learned many things from studying the animals. Tell what she learned from each of the following:
a) wolves
b) reindeer
c) foxes
d) birds
5- Kapugen also taught Miyax how to read the signs of nature. Give examples of the signs of nature which Miyax read, and explain how this helped to protect her from danger and to survive.
6- Alaska has a very long and harsh winter climate. The Eskimo people use the climate and work with it in their own natural existance. Give examples of things they make from:

b) frozen animal hides
c) ice blocks and sod
7- Use the Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the Eskimo culture to the Gussak ways.
